Biocompatible polycarbonate hemodialysis blood pump

A project jointly developed by Renal Solutions and the material manufacturer Saab Foundation Innovative Plastics has designed a new blood dialysis blood pump, PulsarTM, made of Polycarbonate. The choice of biocompatible material Lexan® HPM has the mechanical and physical properties required for blood pumping while also improving blood compatibility. This grade of material can reduce platelets, leukocytes and fibrinogen bundles, and C3a protein activation, thereby reducing blood clotting. Such a blood pump helps to prevent the thrombus formation on the pump and affect the therapeutic effect.
